KindPath Collective Inc
Emergency and Disaster Management Policy
Version 1.0 | Effective: 29 August 2026 | Review: 29 August 2027 | Owner: Director
1. Purpose
To ensure participants and workers stay safe, and support can continue or resume, during emergencies — medical emergencies during a support session, natural disasters (relevant given KindPath’s Northern Rivers, NSW flood-prone operating area), and other major disruptions.
2. Legislative and standards basis
NDIS Practice Standards, Module 2: Governance and Operational Management — Emergency and disaster management. Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW).
3. Policy statement
Every participant support plan includes basic emergency information sufficient for a worker to respond safely: relevant medical information the participant consents to share, emergency contacts, and any evacuation or mobility considerations relevant to a natural disaster given the Northern Rivers’ known flood risk.
4. Procedure
Medical emergency during a session
- Call 000 immediately for any medical emergency.
- Provide first aid within the worker’s training and comfort level only.
- Contact the Director and the participant’s emergency contact as soon as safely possible.
- Log the event in the Incident Register.
Natural disaster / regional emergency
- Worker and participant safety takes priority over completing a scheduled support session.
- Workers follow relevant NSW SES guidance for the region and do not attempt travel through flood-affected roads.
- The Director maintains a simple check-in process to confirm all active participants and workers are safe when a regional emergency is declared.
- Where a participant may be isolated or at higher risk during a disaster (mobility limitations, reliance on power for equipment), this is flagged in their support plan in advance, not worked out during the event.
Service disruption (Director or sole worker unavailable)
Handled per the Continuity of Supports Policy.
5. Roles and responsibilities
- Director: maintains emergency contact information for all participants and workers; runs the check-in process during declared regional emergencies.
- Workers: know the relevant participant’s emergency information before a session; prioritise safety over task completion.
